"Ruby Red Again - Pastel on Suede"

Pastel on Black Suede
12" x 24"
by Terry Ann Stanley

This painting is similar to the painting earlier displayed. The previous painting was done in oil while this one is painted with pastel on black suede. The black suede is a deep black and brings out the color red. I love working on suede. The pastel adheres quite well to the suede and gives it a rich look. You can reach me at terrystanley@cox.net

"Jane Fleming - Countess of Harrington"

Charcoal by Terry Ann Stanley
Original by Joshua Reynolds

The original painting is in the permanent collection of the Huntington Library. Drawing these charcoals on location has improved my skills and replaces the live model sketching that many artists work into their schedules.
"Pinkie"

Charcoal by Terry Ann Stanley
Original Painting by Thomas Lawrence

Pinkie is a painting in the permanent collection of The Huntington Library in San Marino, California. The painting of Sarah Goodin Barrett Moulton who was born in 1783 in Jamaica was commissioned by Sarah's Grandmother. Pinkie was Sarah's nickname. She died of whooping cough one year after the portrait was completed.

Huntington Gardens is one of my favorite spots to visit and sketch. Every visit I see something new. The spring is beautiful with all it's blooms. Recently I was given a pass to visit the Huntington on the days that the library is closed to the public. I am able to relax and enjoy painting on the grounds without figures passing thru my line of site. I do, however, enjoy the people and watching their faces as they stroll thru the gardens.

"Yellows - Violin and Sunflower"

5 x 7 inch on hardboard
by Terry Ann Stanley

My childhood violin. Would love to start playing it again, but it is in bad shape and painting it will suffice for now. The harmonica is a little easier to carry around.

I was trying some yellows out in this picture. I have a larger painting I started but have not had the motivation to finish. This smaller version has given me some incentive.

"Ruby Red - Wine Glass with Red Roses"

5 x 7 inch Original Oil on hardboard
by Terry Ann Stanley (www.terrystanleyart.com)

I love the color ruby red. I thought I would try to paint a couple of red objects. This is what I was able to produce. I will try to produce a better photo at a later date. I painted this on a primed hardboard. I decided I would not sand the surface smooth. It had what I thought was a little tooth but when I started painting, it felt like a lot of tooth. For this painting, I did not like painting on this rough surface but I could see it being useful in another application.

"Wine Glass with Grapes"

5 x 7 inch Original Watercolor
by Terry Ann Stanley
(www.terrystanleyart.com)

I was wanting to see if I could get a clear glass look with watercolors which is not a medium a use often. The look is what I wanted and I have used this for invitations, note cards, etc. This has been a useful painting.

"Country Roses 1"

8 X 10 inch Original Oil Painting
by Terry Ann Stanley (www.terrystanleyart.com)

I love country looking things. I am typically a more realistic painter but wanted to try a little more impressionistic style and to complete a painting within a time limit. This is the result. I would like to paint more in this style.

"Temple of Love" at The Huntington

12 x 16 inch Original Oil Painting
by Terry Ann Stanley (www.terrystanleyart.com)

The Huntington Library has always been a favorite of mine and the challenge of painting a statue has always been a challenge I have wanted to pursue. Now that I have been approved to paint on the grounds, I have many statues to choose from. This statue has been one of my favorites.

I was able to complete this within a day.

I plan on creating more art at this fabulous Gallery and Gardens.
